Flower Mound HS has 27; places among top schools in nation

Flower Mound High School
The Lewisville ISD announced the National Merit Scholarship Program has recognized 49 seniors as semifinalists. These academically talented students will now be considered to be named a finalist and receive a National Merit Scholarship. About 90 percent of the semifinalists will be named finalists in the spring.
Flower Mound High School, with 27 semifinalists, finished among the top 1 percent of high schools in Texas and in the top 2 percent on a national-international basis.
“Our National Merit Semifinalists represent the fruition of our commitment to educational excellence,” Dr. Jerry Roy, Superintendent of Schools, said in a statement. “I am so proud of these students and wish them the best of luck in all their educational endeavors.”
Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. More than 1.5 million juniors in about 22,000 high schools entered the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program.
“This ranking is an excellent indicator of the academic rigor and standard we have established,” FMHS Principal Paul Moon wrote in a note to parents. ” Being in the top 1% in Texas means the education our kids are receiving is as good, if not better than 99% of the other students in the state. The same is true internationally, where we rank in the top 2%. Our students experience the “Cream of the Crop” daily with the passionate teachers here at FMHS.”
